Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

“Function meets morphology”: a special symposium to celebrate the 80th birthday of Professor Geoffrey Arden.

In 2010 Professor Geoffrey Arden will celebrate his 80th birthday. There are not many scientists who can oversee 55 years of steady research and to celebrate this event there will be a special symposium in Munich from the 9th-11th June  We have chosen that date since WOC ends in Berlin  on June 9th  We have been exceptionally fortunate in being able to book an excellent venue for the meeting in the middle of Munich.

Recently, imaging systems have progressed to such an extent that we are able to record in vivo retinal images, for example with the new “Spectralis” system, which give images that in some ways resemble histological investigation.  Some clinicians even rely only on these imaging systems and do not utilise electrophysiology. However, the true value of the high resolution images becomes apparent when combined with the functional data supplied by electrophysiology. Thus electrophysiology and morphology converge, and hence the title of the meeting “Function meets morphology” The program and further details of the meeting can be found at http://www.visionscience2010.org

As you will see from the program, many leading speakers in our field have agreed to participate  This includes all four former ISCEV presidents.  We hope that many of you will come to Munich to what promises to be a very interesting symposium and not least to help celebrate Professor Arden’s 80th birthday.

Please submit abstracts for the free papers and poster sessions by 15th March 2010, and book hotel accommodation early. The prices are reasonable at the moment but will increase significantly the closer we come to the date of the meeting. Also, there will be a large fair taking place in Munich at the same time as the Symposium, which will put pressure on the available hotel accommodation.

We look forward to seeing you in Munich.

Yours,

Thomas Berninger        John Heckenlively       Chris Hogg
